Specialist Certificate in Addictive Behaviours & Psychological Pain (ABPP)

Treat the Pain Behind the Addiction

Move Beyond Behaviour Modification

Addiction is rarely just about the substance or the habit. It is often a desperate attempt to soothe deep-seated Psychological Pain.

The LSCCH UK Specialist Certificate in Addictive Behaviours & Psychological Pain (ABPP) is an advanced training for therapists who want to treat the root cause of addiction, not just the symptom. This course integrates Clinical Hypnotherapy, Positive Psychology, and Quantum Psychology to address the "inner emptiness" that drives addictive cycles. Whether treating substance misuse, gambling, or co-dependency, you will learn to guide clients from a state of fragmentation to wholeness.

The Outcome: You will gain the skills to treat complex addiction cases by addressing the underlying emotional void, fostering true recovery rather than just abstinence.

Why Train in ABPP?

Standard addiction counselling often focuses on "relapse prevention." We focus on "Self-Reintegration."

  • Deep Therapy: Learn to work with the Inner Child and Co-dependency issues that fuel addiction.

  • Innovative Tools: Master Paradoxical Interventions and Dissociative Techniques to bypass resistance.

  • Holistic Approach: Integrate Positive Psychology to build resources, ensuring the client has a "life worth living" after the addiction stops.

  • Professional Growth: This qualification counts towards the Advanced Practitioner Diploma (APDIP).

The Power of Integration: Hypnosis & Psychotherapy

Why do we combine Clinical Hypnosis with addiction therapy?

Standard psychotherapy works with the conscious mind, which is often where "Denial" lives. An addict knows logically they should stop, but they cannot.

Hypnosis allows us to:

  1. Bypass Denial: By accessing the subconscious, we can bypass the client's critical defences and rationalisations.

  2. Soothe the Nervous System: Addiction is often a regulation issue. Trance states naturally down-regulate the nervous system, providing the relief the client was seeking in the substance.

  3. Heal the Void: Techniques like Inner Child Work and Pseudo-Regression are far more vivid and effective in a trance state. We can "re-parent" the wounded part of the self that feels empty, removing the need for the external fix.

By integrating Solution Focused Hypnotherapy with Psychodynamic understanding, you create a therapy that is both supportive and transformational.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this course cover drug and alcohol addiction?

Yes. The principles taught (treating the void, inner child work, dissociation) apply to substance addictions as well as behavioural addictions like gambling, shopping, and co-dependency.

What is "Psychological Pain"?

Psychological pain refers to the deep, often unspoken suffering that drives addiction. This can manifest as a feeling of "inner emptiness," existential dread, or unresolved grief. This course teaches you how to safely hold and heal this pain so the client no longer needs to anaesthetise it.

Do I need to be a hypnotherapist?

It is highly recommended. Many of the techniques (Pseudo-Regression, Dissociation) rely on the trance state. If you are a counsellor without hypnosis training, please speak to our admissions team to see if you qualify or if you should take our Foundation module first.
